Now, only one question leaves: is it reality or imagination? I still cannot believe of being writing all this. It seems only yesterday when there was the first idea of creating Neonisi and now it’s eventually the time of the inauguration of its first day of live.

Although it is not barely comparable to all the other websites, online since more time and surely with more users and features, this is a great day for many reasons.

Firstly, from now we cannot come back no more: although to create a valid alternative will take some time, we will apply in order to reach this purpose. We hope to have support even by the community, so that we can improve and grow up together day after day.

Secondly, I wish to specify this is only the beginning of a long way, and actually many features, which we are accustomed, miss. For example, there aren’t all the additional options for viewing the auctions, as the bold font and the gallery: we have not forgotten, but we want to have a solid and functional base. Then what now lacks will be added, and much more.
One thing which surely you will be missed is that you cannot add photos to your item for sale and showing them in the list. This is one of the next features will be add. Meanwhile, in the next post we will explain how to add photos into the description.

The updates are planned every two weeks, a time quite acceptable to add something useful.

Apposite forums have been activated for who wants to help us to improve Neonisi (with suggestions, error reports and problems or to help to translate in new languages), so that we can organize better the work.

And now, let’s do our better to improve: Neonisi is finally online, tell everyone.

Effettivamente è passato diverso tempo dall’ultimo post, e per questo mi vorrei scusare con tutti voi. Questo ultimo periodo è stato pieno di impegni e il tempo è stato veramente poco ed è passato molto velocemente.

Ora però rimane solo una domanda: è la realtà o è pura immaginazione? Non riesco ancora a crederci di stare scrivendo tutto questo. Sembra solo ieri quando ci fu la prima idea di creare Neonisi ed ora si è giunti al momento dell’inaugurazione del suo primo giorno di vita.

Seppur non sia minimamente paragonabile a tutti gli altri siti che sono presenti online da più tempo e che hanno sicuramente più utenti e funzionalità, questo è un gran giorno per diversi motivi.

Innanzi tutto perchè da adesso non si può più tornare indietro: anche se ci vorrà del tempo prima di riuscire a creare una valida alternativa, dalla nostra parte ci sarà tutto l’impegno possibile per raggiungere questo obiettivo. Speriamo di avere un supporto anche dalla comunità così da poter migliorare e crescere insieme giorno dopo giorno.

Come seconda cosa vorrei specificare il fatto che questo è solo l’inizio di un lungo cammino, e sicuramente ora non sono presenti molte delle funzionalità a cui siamo abituati su altre piattaforme. Per esempio mancano tutte le opzioni aggiuntive nel mostrare le aste, come il grassetto e la galleria: non ci siamo dimenticati, ma vogliamo avere prima una base solida e funzionale. Col tempo verrà aggiunto quello che manca, e anche di più.
Una cosa di cui sicuramente si sentirà la mancanza è il fatto di non poter aggiungere delle foto dell’oggetto in vendita e quindi mostrarle nell’elenco insieme alle altre aste. Questa sarà sicuramente una delle prossime cose che verranno aggiunte, nel frattempo nel prossimo post verrà spiegato come aggiungere delle foto all’interno della descrizione.

Gli aggiornamenti sono pianificati ogni due settimane, un tempo abbastanza accettabile per poter aggiungere qualcosa di funzionale.

Per chi vuole aiutare a migliorare Neonisi (con proposte, segnalazioni di errori e problemi o per aiutare a tradurre in nuove lingue) sono stati attivati anche dei forum appositi così da poter organizzare meglio il lavoro.

Ed ora, facciamo tutti del nostro meglio per crescere: Neonisi è finalmente online, ditelo a tutti.

Time keeps going by and things to do and to organize are much more.
Recently, it seems to be on Jupiter (whose rotation’s time is about ten hours),
as if Earth would have a such few hours day, where you have to organize yourself
at the best to do every task.
However, it is to admit that all that work become heavy, thinking about the future,
when, of course, there will be too much things to do (maybe not only online, but that is
an other matter… for a not so close future).

Nevertheless, now the most important matters are two:

- tomorrow the server that will host Neonisi will be (eventually) active:
nothing too powerful for now, only what we need to start. When (we hope)
it will begin to works too slowly (due to too much clients), we will provide
to change it with something more powerful, to manage everything (actually, there
are many ideas about some services – but just ideas for now – which we will try
to reach).

- Tuesday the first phase of internal testing will starts too, in order
to be sure that everything works as expected. Ended this, there will be
another one where all the texts will be prepared (translations
included) and again we will check that all works. After these two periods,
Neonisi will be started in its very basically form (and lacking of several
features that on the other sites are already available). Even if
actually the fashion is to put the “beta” word on a lot of sites, we have
chosen to go against this and to do not put it. That will be an
embryonic phase, however we think it does not have to be written to justify
eventual problems, but our actions and our will to improve every day
always more to become a true alternative to the actual concurrents.

In conclusion, perhaps you have read the word “translations”,
well, as many have understood from the first post, the
target we are pursuing is not only to create something in one
country (too simple, and too much “common”), but also to place us, by the
first time, in the position to have an increase on countries as much as possible.
Currently the nearly sure languages are: Italian, English, French,
Spanish and Slovak, probably not all from the beginning, but after a
first period.

Il tempo continua a passare, e le cose da fare e da organizzare sono
sempre di più. Ultimamente sembra quasi di essere su Giove (il quale ha
una rotazione su sè stesso di poco meno di 10 ore), come se anche la
Terra avesse un giorno di così poche ore in cui bisogna cercare di
organizzarsi al meglio per riuscire a fare tutto quello che è in
programma.
Però bisogna dire che tutto questo lavoro diventa quasi leggero pensando
al futuro, dove sicuramente ci saranno molte più cose da fare e da
organizzare (magari non solo online, ma questo è un altro discorso…per
un futuro non proprio vicino).

Comunque le cose veramente importanti ora sono due:

- domani verrà (finalmente) attivato il server che ospiterà Neonisi, nulla
di potentissimo, almeno per adesso, giusto l’indispensabile per poter
partire. Quando (si spera) arriverà il momento in cui inizierà a dare i
primi sintomi di lentezza si provvederà a sostituire il tutto con
qualcosa di più potente per gestire tutto (ci sono anche parecchie idee
riguardo ad alcuni servizi, ma per ora sono solo idee, che si
cercheranno di raggiungere);

- Martedì inoltre partirà anche la prima fase di testing interno, giusto
per assicurarsi che tutto funziona come ci si aspetta. Finita questa
prima parte ce ne sarà un’altra in cui verranno preparati tutti i testi
(traduzioni incluse) e ricontrollato ancora che tutto funzioni. Superati
questi due periodi Neonisi inizierà a prendere vita nella sua primissima
forma (e sicuramente mancante di parecchie funzionalità che sugli altri
siti sono già disponibili). Anche se la moda attuale vede la scritta
“beta” su molti siti, noi abbiamo scelto di andare contro questo e di
non metterla. Seppur sarà una fase embrionale pensiamo che non debba
essere una scritta a giustificare eventuali problemi, ma le nostre
azioni e la nostra volonta di migliorare ogni giorno sempre di più così
da diventare una vera alternativa agli attuali concorrenti.

Per concludere, forse avete letto la parola “traduzioni”, bene, come
forse molti avranno intuito dal primo post, l’obiettivo che ci stiamo
ponendo non è solo quello di creare qualcosa in un paese (troppo
semplice, e troppo “comune”), ma bensì di porci fin da subito nella
posizione di avere la possibilità di avere una crescita su più paesi
possibili. Attualmente le lingue quasi sicure sono: italiano, inglese,
francese, spagnolo e slovacco, probabilmente non tutte fin dall’inizio,
ma dopo un primo periodo.

Hi everybody. Firstly, I really want to welcome you to this development blog. No, please, don’t go! Keep reading.
Since this is the first post, I think I have to explain you what Neonisi is. You probably know eBay, don’t you? So, I think that you also know that recently it is quite expansive for “normal people” (normal, or just someone who sells for hobby and not for work) and, if you are a professional seller, maybe it is very much for you, too.

But also about the frauds, or problems like the contact service (maybe in some country it is better, but in Italy I think I cannot talk about service, as it is always an automatic response!), do you think it is correct to pay and have these things?
Anyway, about this project, about us: I think it would be better for you, for us, for everyone (ok, ok, maybe not for eBay) to have a place where everyone can trust each other and keep the place clean (without offers about viagra, piracy, magic “all things 1 euro” lists, gmail invite… and so on). For site like eBay, more auctions = more money, also trash items. But what about us as users? Do you like this kind of items?
Actually, our project is to create something real, somewhere like the place I have just described, something that can be a new island for us: Neonisi. The name comes from greek: “Neos” (New) and “Nisi” (island).

Do you think this is a crazy idea? That there are a lot, a lot and, again, a lot of sites like this? Yes, maybe you are right, but I have seen many of these site that uses all the same packages, all the same template, all equals, and all with trash items!
Maybe with this site there will be more confusion for users to choose one and they will go to eBay, because it is the best, with more objects. But I think we can change this and spread our voice everywhere, making information. Really, do you prefer a site where you cannot trust others or where you can buy like Amazon, where you have fully trust? As far as I am concerned, I prefer the second one.

An other matter I think it is very important is “KISS”: “Keep it simple, stupid!” (or also “Keep it simple and stupid”). Why do you need so many links to other companies, products? Look to eBay: they have so many links that a newbie has only these options:
- to run away
- random click everywhere
- to yell help to neighbors
- to spend one day to understand the site
We think this is not good. That is another mission: just spend less time to understand the site and spend it to sell and buy (but in the future also other things).

Probably, many of you use IE, Firefox, Safari or Opera… Ok, but is there also anyone who use Lynx (a console web browser)? Maybe few, but I am quite sure that someone there is. We think that the web is better if it is accessible to anyone, to disable people, too! And you? What do you think?

Just the last one. Imagine a place really global (eBay is only in some countries, not all) and written in a lot of languages. Impossible? Maybe, but I do not think so. And can you also imagine a place where you can discuss with the team to choose/propose the next feature? We think the user is the most important in a site, not how the site is developed or things like this. So, the user can choose what he prefers: if a feature is better than another, if he really need it and how.

Does it sounds impossible? Maybe, but we want to create something real, not just words. We want to know if you will be interested in this, and maybe help us.

As first post, I think that you have already run away, but if you are still there, I want to thank you. And, please, do not think we are crazy!

Bene. Non so se qualcuno leggerà questo primo post, ma in quel caso…

Salve a tutti, per prima cosa vorrei darvi il benvenuto in questo blog. No, per piacere, non andare. Continua a leggere.
Dato che è il primo post, sarà il caso che vi spieghi cosa sia realmente Neonisi. Probabilmente conoscete eBay, vero? Quindi immagino sappiate anche che, recentemente, è abbastanza caro per persone normali (normali o, semplicemente, qualcuno che vende per hobby e non per lavoro). E se siete venditori professionisti, forse anche per voi è molto.
Ma anche riguardo alle frodi, o problemi tipo il servizio clienti (forse in alcuni paesi è meglio, ma in Italia penso che non si possa parlare di servizio, perchè è sempre una risposta automatica!), pensate debba essere giusto pagare e avere queste cose?
Comunque, riguardo a questo progetto, riguardo a noi, penso che sarebbe meglio per voi, per noi, per tutti (ok, ok, forse non per eBay) avere un posto in cui ciascuno possa fidarsi degli altri e tenere il posto pulito (senza offerte di viagra, pirateria, liste magiche “tutto per 1 euro”, inviti gmail… e così via).
Per siti come eBay, più aste = più soldi, anche oggetti spazzatura. Ma riguardo a noi come utenti, vi piace questo tipo di oggetti?
Attualmente, il nostro progetto è quello di creare qualcosa di reale, un posto come quello appena descritto, qualcosa che può essere una nuova isola per noi: Neonisi. Il nostro nome, infatti, deriva dal greco “Neos” (nuovo) e “Nisi” (isola).

Pensate che sia una follia? Che ci sono molti, molti e, ancora una volta, molti siti come questi? Sì, forse avete ragione, ma ho visto molti di questi siti che usano tutti lo stesso pacchetto, tutti lo stesso template, tutti uguali, e tutti con spazzatura!
Forse avete anche ragione riguardo al fatto che con questo sito ci sarà più confusione per gli utenti nel sceglierne uno e quindi andranno su eBay perchè è il migliore e con più oggetti, ma penso che possiamo cambiare questo e fare più informazione tra gli utenti. Sinceramente, preferireste un sito dove non potete fidarvi degli altri o dove potete comprare come su Amazon, dove potete avere piena fiducia? Personalmente preferisco la seconda.

Una cosa che penso sia molto importante è “KISS”, o meglio “Mantienilo semplice, stupido!” (o anche “mantienilo semplice e stupido”). Perchè c’è bisogno di così tanti link ad altre compagnie e prodotti? Guardate eBay: hanno così tanti link che un nuovo utente ha queste possibilità:
-scappare
-cliccare a caso da tutte le parti
-urlare aiuto ai vicini
-spendere un giorno per capire il sito
Noi pensiamo che questo non vada bene. E questa è un’altra nostra missione: semplicemente spendere meno tempo nel capire il sito e spenderlo invece per comprare e vendere (ma in futuro anche altre cose).

Probabilmente molti di voi useranno IE, Firefox, Safari o Opera… Ok, ma c’è anche qualcuno che usa Lynx (un browser tramite console)? Forse pochi, ma sono sicuro che qualcuno c’è… da qualche parte. Pensiamo che il web sia meglio se è accessibile a tutti, anche alle persone disabili che usano screen reader.
E voi? Cosa ne pensate?

Solo un’ultima cosa: immaginate un posto veramente globale (eBay è solo in alcuni paesi, non in tutti) e scritto in molte lingue. Impossibile? Forse, ma non la penso così. Riuscite anche a immaginare un posto dove potete parlare con il team nel scegliere/proporre la prossima funzionalità? Pensiamo che l’utente sia il più importante in un sito, non come un sito è sviluppato o cose così. Quindi l’utente deve scegliere ciò che preferisce: se una funzionalità è meglio di un’altra, se realmente gli serve e come.

Sembra impossibile? Forse, ma vogliamo creare qualcosa di reale, non semplicemente parole. Vogliamo sapere se siete interessati a questo, e magari aiutarci.
